Job description:

Provide management and workers with guidance and advice on labour relations issues inside the company while ensuring compliance with labour laws.

Qualification:

Qualifications Necessary – Relevant Degree and Significant IR Experience.

Experience required:

IR Officer must have 5 years of relevant work experience, at least two of which should be in a unionised context, the ability to conduct CCMA/Bargaining Council Arbitrations successfully, and knowledge of the Labour Court’s procedures and appearances

Advanced computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including MS Word, MS Excel, and email. • Handling of union concerns and salary negotiations at various levels. Must possess reliable transportation and be willing to travel.

Function:

Reporting:

Monthly reporting is required for Department of Labour submission of the final report for managing disciplinary statistics.

Monthly reporting of statistics on national employee relations
Employee Relations activities and action plans are reported weekly.
Management of the reports submitted by the Ombudsman and Investigators, including weekly tracking of open cases, reports to be submitted in this regard, and timeline adherence.
Reports provided to and by investigators, as and when reports are received, to guarantee complete compliance and adherence to fundamental principles in respect to the issue highlighted.

Project Management:

All layoffs and structural changes in the region should be advised of and managed as they happen. Likewise, consultation processes should be finished within the appropriate time frames.

Manage grievances received in the region to ensure adherence to the code of good practise and other relevant policies

Advise management on ER-related issues and disciplinary procedures o Manage appeals procedure o Conduct IR Training in accordance with the National Training Schedule and regional requirements o Manage Labour Court matters

Management of internal and external stakeholders:

Consult with line managers to increase diversity in the workplace by providing guidance on contracts of employment, terms and conditions of employment, and workforce restructuring.

Recommendation drafting
Having a tracking system for how line management responds to those issues
Coordinate EAP alignment within the firm and the ensuing action plan with HR and Learning and Development.
Union involvement

Putting systems in place to ensure proactive notification of staff concerns and action. o Establishing strong ties with union leaders.

Establish and coordinate management/employee/union communication to promote a healthy working culture. O Manage union membership within the company on a monthly basis. O Conduct/Coordinate Employee Engagement sessions to be aware of the climate within the business and promote a healthy working culture.
Addressing and responding to union correspondence, identifying employee grievances to possibly minimise union participation, and directing others.
